When will we ever learn?
From an aritcle by William Rivers Pitt on the current administration -
They are fascists, and this is what fascists do. They make people afraid. They turn a populace against an outsider while at the same time denying that populace information or even hope of a peaceful resolution. They mobilize for attack through intimidation and scare-tactics. Ask Herman Goering, who explained during the Nuremburg trials, "Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." Welcome to the bunker mentality, courtesy of George W. Bush and the folks who brought you the catastrophic invasion of Iraq, the escape and continued freedom of Osama bin Laden, the annihilation of faith in the business community by way of Enron, the annihilation of any sense of personal security by way of Katrina, the annihilation of our standing on the international stage, the big lie about weapons of mass destruction, and an awful lot of dead American soldiers. They used September 11 against you to get these things, or to get away with these things, depending on the need at hand. The result is a proud, great nation on its knees.

I recall having an argument with a certain jack ass on this site a few months ago, where I drew these exact parallels between fascism and this present administration and was told I was incorrect.
It doesn't make me feel good to say 'I told you so'. I don't want to look at my government and see that this is exactly what is going on. The analogies are striking and unfortunate for all of us.
Unless your a pig head blind liar, you cannot read this article and come to any different conclusion other than what this guy says is true. I'm not happy or proud to have to admit it's true. But it is and things have to change. The people have to take back this country from the criminals who are now and have been for the past five years, leading us backwards to a hell of their own making.
It's reallly sad when you think back about how life was before the present Administration took over. The most we had to worry about was taxes, social security and medical insurance/cost. Now on top of that we have all this crap. Well I guess that means job security for me in my chosen field (psychology) but I'd much rather have fewer clients and a freer/truer America.
BTW I'm glad the jerks are off this site for the most part. (What a waste of time that was trying to help people with the chalkboard and saying OK, here's the 2 and here's the plus sign, here's the other 2..and that line means equals, and that's right 4..) only to hear the jerkoff say 'No, it could be three as well, nobody's proven that its not three you are just a liberal.' What a waste of valuable time that could have been spent making Bush's free fall animation the reality it is now..
Oh of course once THEY hear you use the word 'facisim' or 'nazi' or even 'dictator' or anything like that, they are going to say 'how dare you, that's not what we are.'
But they are using the tactics. That they are. At least in the beginning stages. Keep in mind that the Nazi party was a democratic party in 1930 and participated in elections. It never got more than 30% of the vote in fair elections. Then it burned down the Parliment and pretended that the communists did it...creating outrage and starting the rise to power..
Well it wasn't for lack of trying.
I went to the polls and pulled the lever for people who were talking about trying to give the average working American a health care plan that wouldn't bankrupt him.
And they wanted to address the fact that the wealthy corporate cronies of Dubya needed to start paying their fair share in taxes so that education and health care and common good causes could actually be funded.
And in spite of what Dubya tells you, Social Security isn't in the trouble he'd like you to think it is, and with minimal tweaking and the wealthiest's taxes going in the right direction, it could be solvent adinfinitum.
They have brought this great nation to it's knees. I could weep, but I'd rather fight for change.
Nice to see you again, Underdog Dem.
And Polisci - you keep fighting for change and I'll keep dropping bags of burning poop on the doorsteps of the idiots.
I'm just adding my comment to support what you were saying. In the runup to the invasion (August, 2002), it was a friend of mine, who I'd always thought was conservative, who'd actually shocked me when he described the Bush administration as "fascist".
I had had some of the same uneasy thoughts about the administration myself, what with the appointment of the president by the SCOTUS, the 911 attacks (like the burning of the Reichstag), the propaganda & the attempts to supress dissenting voices.
Now a conservative person was giving voice to that fear.
Our nation's ideals are going down the tubes, if these neocons have their way, and, just as they believe that there is no reason that democracy needs to succeed, we can understand that the success of their agenda is not an inevitability, either.
There's more of us than there are of them. Viva the good guys!
